omg!!! we had a fireplace/hole in the rug incident NYE too!! nothing like being upstairs and hearing your kids screaming “FIRE FIRE!!” thankfully the only physical damage was a burn mark in the rug …and the tree, which was 2 feet away didnt go up in flames.
